I could realized how many people were here holding candle lights to achieve democracy peacefully... I wasn't here at that historical moment but the wide opened square and the big ancient gate made me picturing the size of the demonstration. That made me goose bump for a while.

Took the Subway to this square and had the chance to walk around all day on a nice Sunday in April. Since the US-Embassy is located next to the square there are different organisations who like to demonstrate along this road. On this particular day I was lucky to walk by at least five of those demonstrations. But regardless of the people standing around and holding banners, this place is very cool. If you enjoy the big monuments and old buildings as well as the art and some museums this is the right place. Lots of Photo-Opportunities and quite a bit to see. You can walk around and on both sides the several line road will go by. From this square you can walk down to the city hall (must see) and the old palace. There are many things to look at and if you are ever in Seoul make sure to take a day or two to look at this area. For all the coffee lovers out there, of course Starbucks or other coffee shops have a store close by and you will be able to enjoy your favorit drink:).

It is the center of Seoul, Korea's capital, and a major tourist destination. So it is a noisy square where people who always express themselves in the opinion of pleasant, angry or sad reasons. You can also have fun with various cultural events. There are also flea markets and international cultural events. On September 1, at the Gwanghwamun Square, 'National Paralympic Sports Competition promotion festival' and 'The Vietnamese Cultural Festival' were in progress. There was Vietnam's representative food experience booth (sugarcane juice, half American) booth. There was also a fashion show on the stage in front of the booth. The charismatic eyes, gait and costumes of the participating models stood out. As the weather is clear, I walk slowly down Gwanghwamun Square, It was just nice to see a lot of Koreans and foreigners coming together to enjoy cultural events and children playing in the bottom fountain. I just want to be filled with peace and tranquility.

A beautiful square with an ancient palace as it’s background, a major tourist attraction of Seoul. The great naval admiral & King Sejong’s statues are prime photography spots. There’s a museum about King Sejong behind his statue, entrance free. Too bad the fountains aren’t working during winter.

Nice walk if you would like to read about Korean history. If you look down at the small water feature that stretches all the way to the entrance it shows a timeline of Korean history. You can download a english copy online. Also can also walk past the US EMBASSY.

A nice open space with good views of the gates of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Sometimes they have things set up here. When I went there were lots of ice sculptures made to look like penguins which was nice to see. if you are going to Gyeongbokgung Palace then I recommend going here to take pictures of the main gate area. You just have to time your photos to avoid the cars and traffic on the road.
