It is in Tapgol Park. In the middle of the city is this artifact ... Stacked in glass. I can see a lot of damage, but it seems to be well managed now.

It was designated as National Treasure No. 2 on December 20, 1962. It is about 12m high. This tower was created by imitating the 10-story stone pagoda (National Treasure 86) of Gyeongcheonsa Temple in the Goryeo Dynasty, which was created about 120 years ago. The three-tiered podium in the shape of an 'a', the three-tiered pagoda in this plane, and the four-story or higher pagoda in a square shape are basically the same as the ten-story stone pagoda in Gyeongcheonsa. The Tower Bride is a delicate technique, including the pillars, railings, and fears, and the roof tiles, by mimicking the beautiful tiled houses. A number of Buddhas, Bodhisattva statues, heavenly persons, etc., clouds, dragons, lions, peonies, lotuses, figures, birds, and seonin are engraved on Oksin. It is a refined stone pagoda that shows excellent carving skills that cannot be found in a stone pagoda in the Joseon Dynasty. Designated as National Treasure No. 2 December 20, 1962 Collectible -Tapgol Park Stone Tower Size- About 12m Address: 99 Jongro, Jongno-gu, Seoul (38 Jongno 2-ga)

It is the site of the old Wongaksa Temple It was built by King Sejo, who worshiped Buddhism. The 10-story stone pagoda at Wongaksa Temple stands beautifully I looked back in memory of Danjong, who suffered a lot because of his uncle at a young age.

It is a stone pagoda built together when Wongaksa Temple was built in the early Joseon Dynasty and is National Treasure No. 2 Wongaksa Temple was located on the site of present-day Tapgol Park. It is said that Wongaksa Temple disappeared when Yeonsangun turned the temple into a gisaeng house and sent out monks. The stone pagoda has been kept in glass since 1999 to prevent damage from acid rain. The common material for stone pagodas in Korea is granite, but this pagoda is made of marble.

I visited this pagoda. And from the minute you enter the garden surrounding it you can feel the history behind it. What is most unique about this pagoda is that it is made out of marble.

One of the interesting things to see at Tapgol Park is the historic Wongaksa Pagoda. This is a ten-storey marble pagoda constructed in 1467. The monument is recognised as National Treasure #2 in Korea and is encased in a glass building and surrounded by protective scaffolding due to its delicate state. The pagoda was formerly part of the larger Wongak-sa Temple which was located here. That temple is gone now but the pagoda and the nearby historic Monument of Wongak-sa, a tortoise and pillar remain for visitors to see. Unfortunately, you can't approach this historic pagoda to better inspect its design and carved images. However, there is a similar national treasure, the Gyongcheonsa Pagoda on the ground floor of the National Museum of Korea, which you might also want to see during your visit to Seoul. This provides a good example of what Wongaksa Pagoda would look like without its protective scaffolding and glass walls. The Wongaksa Pagoda is a neat attraction at Tapgol Park if you enjoy seeing historical monuments and buildings. The Tapgol Park isn't far Jongmyo Shrine and can be easily combined with visits to that important UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Wongaksa Temple whose precincts once housed this stone was established in 1465 at the current location of Tapgol Park in Downtown Seoul. The temple continued to thrive as a state institution even after the establishment of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), which adopted Confucianism as its ideological foundation and suppressed Buddhism. It was in 1504 when Joseon was under the rule of Yeonsangun, a despotic king, that the temple was closed and its premises were turned into a gisaeng (female entertainer) house called Yeonbangwon. This 12-meter-tall marble pagoda is the only existing monument of its kind built during the Joseon Period, boasting of elaborately carved decorations that create wonderful aesthetic harmony with the grayish white surface of the marble. The pagoda consists of a three-tier base in polygonal shape -- decorated with elaborately carved images of various creatures such as dragon, lion, and lotus -- and the ten-story main body wherein the lower part of the three stories is polygonal in plain view just like the base and the upper part of the seven stories is in square form. Each story exhibits the appearance of a traditional Korean house in a detailed manner complete with roof, decorative support brackets, and columns. Compared with other Korean stone pagodas largely made of granite, this pagoda is unique since it is made of marble and due to its structure whose details are similar to those of the Ten-story Stone Pagoda of the Gyeongcheonsa Temple Site built during the Goryeo Period (918-1392). A record engraved on the top of the pagoda shows that it was set up in 1467. The pagoda is now regarded as a great masterpiece for its unique decorations wrought with excellent carving techniques.
