★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a great day trip, if I ever have family come to visit this will be one of the first stops. They have an archery experience near the gift shop, and a short walk from the parking area is a great museum to go visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Suwon was one of four main regional government centers during the Joseon dynasty. Hwaseong Fortress, built to protect the city, was designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site on December 12, 1997 for its historical value. The fortress offers various performances daily as well as the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival every fall. The walls stretch for 5.7 kilometers, with Paldalsan Mountain at the center. The fortress, constructed from 1794 to 1796, was built as a display of King Jeongjo’s filial piety towards his father and to build a new pioneer city with its own economic power. We visited on a weekday and there was no one on the top.

there're 11gates in this castle.
the most beautiful gate is janganmun, which is toward to the north, hanyang, old capital, also where the king lived in ancient kingdom.

A rare castle in Korea. Because Koreans are a people who want peace, not war.
This castle construction, prepared to war against Japan or China.
But this architectural detail have beautiful shapes, you can feel echo environment friendly.
Korea (choson) is a homogeneous nation for 5000 years.
if when China, Japan or Mongol invaded korea (chosen), korea fight bravely, without surrender.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful site, rich with Korean culture and history. You can literally walk right along the walls inside the fortress. Admissions are so cheap… less than $1. I highly recommend visiting, especially if you’re in the area.
