1947년 개교하고 50년 중학교 3년제로 개편(주간/야간)했다. 주야간 총 졸업생이 36,000여명에 이를 정도로 엄청난 동문을 자랑하며 지역 인재양성에 기여한 유구한 역사를 지닌 학교다.
