Muryangsa Temple was established by State Preceptor Beomil in late Silla but the exact date of its construction is not known. However, Buddhist Monk Muyeom stayed here for a while at the late Silla, and the temple was largely rebuilt in Goryeo. Kim Si-seup spent his last days and died here. This hall is a two-story Buddhist sanctum, which is rare in Korea, and is the main building of Muryangsa Temple. It is a two-story building viewed from the outside but there is no floor between the first and second stories inside, so they form one space. The first floor consists of five front kan (a unit of measurement referring to the distance between two columns) and four side kan with partitions between pillars. The second floor has the high pillars of the first floor extended to form the pillars of the four walls, and a window admitting light to the low wall, but this is blocked with wooden boards now. This sanctum enshrines the Amitabha Buddha. It is an outstanding building that has important value as a Buddhist structure that expresses well the characteristics of mid Joseon.

Muryangsa Temple was built by Beo-il at the end of the Silla Dynasty and underwent construction several times, but detailed dates are not given. However, it is said that Master Muyeom, a high priest in the late Silla Dynasty, temporarily stayed, and it was largely rebuilt during the Goryeo Dynasty, and that Kim Si-seop spent the last years of his life in this temple and passed away.
This building is a two-story Buddhist temple, which is not very common in Korea, and is the central building of Muryangsa Temple. It looks like two floors, but inside, the lower and upper floors are open as one. The floor plan of the lower floor was divided into 5 kan on the front side and 4 kan on the side, and a very high column was used. On the upper floor, the tall columns erected on the lower floor are extended as they are, forming four-sided wall columns. Originally, a window was installed to receive light on the few low walls, but now it is blocked with a wooden board wall.
This Buddhist temple, which houses the three statues of Amitabha Nyorai, is an excellent building with important value as a Buddhist architecture that shows the stylistic characteristics of the mid-Joseon period.
