11월 첫주에 갔는데 낙엽도 있고 좋았어요.
탬플스테이 하러 방문했습니다.
사원의 빛바랜 느낌이 좋았어요.
옆에 태조암 산책로도 좋아요~

백제 양식이 남아 있는 잘 생긴 5층석탑과
반듯한 기단 위에 올려져 있는 석등도 아름다웠습니다.
고색 창연한 중층의 극락전에는 규모가 큰 소조부처님 세 분이 모셔져 있습니다.
출가하여 설잠스님으로 무량사에서 생을 마치셨다는 매월당 김시습선생님의 초상을 모신 전각이 있으며
무량사와 조금 떨어진 무진암 입구에 설잠스님의 부도가 있습니다.
무진암은 무량사 주차장 직전의 왼쪽 길로 들어가야 합니다.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 무량사는 신라 말에 범일이 세워 여러 차례 공사를 거쳤으나 자세한 연대는 전하지 않는다. 다만 신라말 고승 무염대사가 일시 머물렀고, 고려시대에 크게 다시 지었으며, 김시습이 이 절에서 말년을 보내다가 세상을 떠났다고 한다.
이 건물은 우리나라에서는 그리 흔치않는 2층 불전으로 무량사의 중심 건물이다. 외관상으로는 2층이지만 내부에서는 아래·위층이 구분되지 않고 하나로 트여 있다. 아래층 평면은 앞면 5칸·옆면 4칸으로 기둥 사이를 나누어 놓았는데 기둥은 매우 높은 것을 사용하였다. 위층은 아래층에 세운 높은기둥이 그대로 연장되어 4면의 벽면기둥을 형성하고 있다. 원래는 그 얼마되지 않는 낮은 벽면에 빛을 받아들이기 위한 창문을 설치했었는데 지금은 나무판 벽으로 막아놓았다.
아미타여래삼존상을 모시고 있는 이 불전은 조선 중기의 양식적 특징을 잘 나타낸 불교 건축으로서 중요한 가치를 지니고 있는 우수한 건물이다.

대한불교조계종 제6교구 본사인 마곡사(麻谷寺)의 말사로서 여러 차례의 중건, 중수를 거쳤으나 자세한 연대는 전하지 않는다.
다만, 신라 말기의 고승 무염(無染)이 일시 머물렀고, 고려시대에 크게 중창하였으며, 김시습(金時習)이 이 절에서 말년을 보내다가 입적하였고, 조선 중기의 고승 진묵(震默)이 아미타불을 점안하고 나무 열매로 술을 빚어서 마시면서 도도한 시심(詩心)을 펼쳤던 사찰이다.
현존하는 당우로는 무량사극락전(極樂殿)을 비롯하여 산신각(山神閣)·요사채 등이 있다. 보물 제356호로 지정된 극락전에는 동양최대의 불좌상이라 하는 아미타여래삼존상이 봉안되어 있으며, 산신각에는 김시습의 영정이 모셔져 있다.
중요문화재로는 보물 제233호로 지정된 무량사석등과 보물 제185호로 지정된 무량사오층석탑, 절 문 앞에 있는 거대한 당간지주(幢竿支柱), 김시습의 부도 등이 있다. 또한, 김시습이 1493년(성종 24) 이곳에서 죽자 승려들이 그의 영각(影閣)을 절 곁에 짓고 초상을 봉안하였다.
그 뒤 읍의 선비들이 김시습의 풍모와 절개를 사모하여 학궁(學宮) 곁에 사당을 짓고 청일사(淸逸祠)라 이름하고 그 초상을 옮겨 봉안하였다. 이 절에서는 조선시대 상당수의 경판이 간행되었다.
1498년(연산군 4) 『법계성풍수륙승회수재의궤(法界聖風水陸勝會修齋儀軌)』를, 1522년(중종 17) 『몽산화상육도보설(夢山和尙六道普說)』을, 1470년에서 1494년 사이 『지장보살본원경(地藏菩薩本源經)』을 간행하였다.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 천년고찰이라는 얘기는 들어봤는데 근처에 볼일이 있어서 지나가다가 들렀어요. 입장료는 성인 3천원이예요. 평일 오후라서 그런지 참 한적했어요. 그냥 보고 있는것 만으로 안정이 되더라구요. 2층으로 지어진 대웅전이 희귀하다고 하더라구요. 겉에서 볼때는 2층인데 안에서는 2층이 아니고 천장이 높아요. 내부는 사진을 찍는게 실례인거 같아서 안찍고 눈으로만 담아왔어요. 불교는 아니지만 불공도 드리고 나왔네요. 한바퀴 산책하고 내려왔어요. 템플 스테이도 한다고 현수막이 걸려있더라구요. 언제 한번 해보고 싶어요. 참 풍경도 아름다운 곳이였어요.
