★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 1986년 2월 7일 전라남도 유형문화재 제136호로 지정되었다. 정면 3칸, 측면 3칸으로 팔작지붕의 건물이다. 각 추녀마다 4개의 활주를 세워 건물을 받치고 있으며, 전면 2개의 주두에 용두를 장식하였다. 겹처마인 다포식 건물로 단청도 잘 되어 있다.
내부에는 목조 삼존불이 봉안되어 있는데, 조선 후기에 조성된 것으로 추정한다. 삼존불은 중앙 본존불의 좌우에 안치되어 있는데, 중앙의 불상이 석가여래이면 좌우의 불상은 보살상이 배치되어야 하는데, 여래상인 삼존불을 안치한 점이 특이하다.
백련사는 통일신라 후기에 창건되었다고 전하는데, 고려시대에는 8국사의 도량이었다. 백련사는 만덕산(萬德山)에 있으므로 만덕사라고도 하였는데, 당시 공경목백(公卿牧伯)이 적극적으로 불사를 지원하였다.
그후 다시 1170년(명종 1) 주지 원묘(圓妙)에 의해 중수되었다 한다. 세종 때 행호(行乎) 주지가 2차 중수를 했고, 효종 때 삼창하였다. 1232년 원묘국사 3세가 이곳에서 보현동장을 개설하고, 백련결사를 일으킨 명찰이다.
대웅전 외에 시왕전·나한전·만경루·칠성각 등이 있다. 절 앞에는 비자나무와 후박나무, 그리고 푸조나무와 함께 백련사의 동백림(천연기념물 151) 등이 있어 장관을 이루고 있다.

On February 7, 1986, it was designated as Jeollanam-do Tangible Cultural Property No. 136. It is a building with an octagonal roof with 3 rooms in the front and 3 rooms in the side. Each elf has 4 slides to support the building, and a crown is adorned on the front two fringes. It is a multi-story building with double eaves and has a well-maintained dancheong.
Inside, a wooden three-dimensional Buddha is enshrined, which is presumed to have been built in the late Joseon Dynasty. The three Buddhas are enshrined on the left and right of the central main Buddha. If the central Buddha image is Shakyamuni Buddha, the left and right Buddha images should be placed with Bodhisattvas.
It is said that Baekryeonsa was built in the late Unified Silla period, and it was the main temple of the eight national temples in the Goryeo Dynasty. Baekryeonsa Temple was also called Mandeoksa Temple because it is located on Mt. Mandeok.
It is said that it was repaired again in 1170 (1st year of King Myeongjong) by Wonmyo (圓妙). During the reign of King Sejong, the governor of Haengho underwent a second repair, and during the reign of King Hyojong he sang the choir. In 1232, King Wonmyo Guksa III opened Bohyeon-dongjang here, and it is a famous temple that started the Baekryeon Society.
In addition to Daeungjeon, there are Siwangjeon, Nahanjeon, Mangyeongru, and Chilseonggak. In front of the temple, there is a camellia forest (Natural Monument 151) of Baekryeonsa Temple along with bija, spruce and pecan trees, making it a spectacular sight.
