About JAFA Brewery

JAFA Brewery, established in 2019, is the first and only Indian owned brewery in Seoul. The Brewery was born out of the love for easy drinking and session-able beers. At JAFA we are focused on making creative, and well-balanced beers; each beer is crafted locally using the finest of ingredients and authentic brewing techniques. Quality and consistency is of prime importance to ensure that every batch brewed is true craft.

The Brewery is located in Seongsu-Dong, in an old chemical factory that has been converted into a multipurpose space. Adjacent to the Brewery, a casual Indian Gastropub will be opening early 2020. The idea is to provide a beer and Indian food pairing experience for the customers – a one of a kind experience in Seoul.

At JAFA, we brew our year round core beers, and from time to time we release seasonal beers that offer customers a unique drinking experience. We released our first beer in April 2019 and since then we have slowly grown our distribution across South Korea; at present we are pouring in over 25 bars and restaurants in the country.

The Kali mirsch tikka and the Tawa mutton was awesome! Masala Raison and IPA were delicious beers. The staff and service were kind and helpful.

Brewpub where all of the beers offered are brewed onsite. The owner spoke to me very passionately about the menu and how he brews the beer. The beer irself has quite a distinctive taste here with indian inspired flavours. This is particularly prevalent in the Masala Saison where spices were actually added to the brew. However, I also found the pale ale to have a uniquely spiced tasted to it, although that taste came purely from the hops used. I also tried the a very refreshing and drinkable session IPA. Apart from the beer ypu can get pizza, chicken, salad and a pasta bake. I went for the pasta bake which is basically a bolognese topped with mozzarella. It was very tasty and the pasta itself had a nice 'al dente' bite to it.

Craft beer and curry = Happy me! ? I was very excited to visit this restaurant when I heard about it as it is a mix of 2 joys in my life which is craft beer and curry. This is an Indian restaurant which has a brewery on site which produces authentic Indian food and amazing craft beer. The owner is a really nice and friendly person that I had a nice chat with before he went into the kitchen to create some culinary magic. There is a nice variety of craft beer on the menu from lagers, pale ales, to porters and other beers for everyone's taste. I had the sampler where you can choose from any 4 beers on the menu so I tried the larger, pale ale, porter and the Jafa X. I was really impressed with the beers I had and really enjoyed the lager and pale ale with the beers not being too heavy on the stomach so you don't get full from the beer before the food arrives. We started off with some papad and home made Indian pickles which had a nice spicy and sour taste to it with a nice variety of vegetables and bite of coriander seeds and whole spice and it was a nice way to get the taste buds going. On the owner's recommendation we also got the tandoori chicken, Ra Ra curry and garlic naan to go with the meal. The tandoori chicken came out and was so juicy and tender. The owner said it is the juiciest tandoori chicken and he wasn't wrong. I really enjoyed the taste of the marinade which tasted like proper tandoori chicken I'm use to and not the pre packed marinade some restaurants use with red food colouring. The Ra Ra curry is a beef curry that was made in the style of curry I grew up eating with a tomato, garlic and onion base and then cooked with a variety of Indian spices. The flavour of the curry really tantalised the taste buds as it was rich and well balanced and the tender beef really went well the piping hot garlic naan which was light and fluffy and always a winner with a curry. This truly was an authentic Indian meal and not like the other Indian restaurants in Seoul which are Nepalese and are good but they've adjusted the taste so the curry tends to be more creamier and not too spicy. The owner is hoping to expand and is known for his kebabs which I'm very excited to try next time. If you are looking for proper Indian food and great craft beer to drink then this place is a must!
