★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 높이 1,507m. 천왕봉(1,915m), 반야봉(1,734m)과 함께 지리산 3대봉의 하나이다. 백두대간에 속한다. 신라시대에 화랑국선(花郞國仙)의 연무도장이 되는 한편, 제단을 만들어 산신제를 지냈던 영봉(靈峰)으로 지리산국립공원의 남서부를 차지한다. 노고단이란 도교(道敎)에서 온 말로, 우리말로는 ‘할미단’이며, ‘할미’는 국모신(國母神)인 서술성모(西述聖母:仙桃聖母)를 일컫는 말이다. 산정부에 가까운 1,100∼1,200m 높이에는 원추리꽃으로 덮인 광활한 고원이 펼쳐져서 부근이 좋은 피서지를 이루기 때문에 제2차 세계대전 전까지 서양사람들의 별장지가 되었다. 노고단의 경관은 지리산이 그렇듯이 기봉난산(奇峰亂山)의 경치보다 울창한 임상(林相)과 웅대한 산용(山容)의 경치가 훌륭하고, 정상부에서의 조망이 뛰어나다. 서쪽 계곡에는 화엄사(華嚴寺)가 있는데, 경내에 각황전(覺皇殿)을 비롯하여 국보·보물로 지정된 전각(殿閣)·석등(石燈)·석탑 등이 많다..
1,507m high. It is one of the three major peaks of Jirisan along with Cheonwangbong (1,915m) and Banyabong (1,734m). It belongs to Baekdu-daegan. In the Silla Dynasty, it became a dance hall for the Hwaranggukseon (花郞國仙) and occupies the southwestern part of Jirisan National Park as Yeongbong (靈峰), where an altar was built and the sanshinje was held. Nogodan is a word from Taoism, in Korean, it is'halmidan', and'halmi' refers to the narrative Seongmo, the national mother god. A vast plateau covered with cone flowers spreads at a height of 1,100 to 1,200m close to the mountaintop, making the area a good summer resort, making it a vacation home for Westerners before World War II. The scenery of Nogodan is like that of Mt. Jirisan, and the view from the top of the mountain is better than that of Gibongnan Mountain. In the western valley, there is Hwaeomsa Temple, and there are many in the precincts, including Gakhwangjeon (覺皇殿), a palace designated as a national treasure and treasure, stone lanterns and stone pagodas.
