이 다리를 '벌교'라 불렀다. 밀물이되면 떠올라
다리가되고, 썰물이 되면 뻘에 묻히는 부교 같은것이
였다. 그러다 1728년홍수로 다리가 끊어지고 이듬해
선암사 스님들에 의해 석교가 놓이게 된다.시간이흘러 지금 모습 홍예 형식의 다리가 완성되었다 한다.
벌교 다리가 고유 지명이되었고, 아름다운 홍교가지금 보물로 남아 우리를 반겨준다. 선암사 승선교와 비교해서 보면 재미가있다.홍(무지개홍),

뗏목다리로 하천을 건너 벌교라 불리는곳에 선암사 승려 2분의 월천공덕으로 조성한 홍예(무지개)형 다리로 조선후기에 건축 개축이 되었다.
