Ancient temple architecture is very characteristic. The gods and goddess of mercy in South Korea are male and bearded. @@

The famous Buddhist temple of Gyeongju Temple in Gyeongju was built in the 528th year of the Silla Dynasty. The seven treasures of the temple, such as the Duo Pagoda, the Sakyamha, the Lanyun Bridge and the two gold and bronze Buddhas, are listed as Korean national treasures. In 1995, Bulguksa Temple was listed as a World Cultural Heritage together with the Grottoes in its eastern part. From 1592 to 1598, during the period of the Wanli Korean War (also known as the 壬辰倭乱), the Buju Temple wooden building and its entire treasures were burnt down. In 1604, the Bulguksa Temple was rebuilt again, and then expanded and rebuilt. The 1966 Bulguksa Temple was partially rebuilt. From 1969 to 1973, South Korean President Park Chung-hee rebuilt the Bulguksa Temple on a larger scale. The well-known stone buildings of the Bulguksa Temple are the original buildings of the Silla period. Although it has been rebuilt, it is said that the current area is said to be only 10% of the temple area in its heyday, so it is conceivable that the Buddha Temple was in the same year.

A UNESCO heritage site, calm and nice Buddhist temple built in 8th century. One thing every tourists must notice however, the temple itself is destructed several times because of war in Korean peninsula in history. If you are lucky enough to visit here in Buddha's Birthday(8th day of 4th lunar month), you can walk by the sculpture only in the day. I personally suggest to appreciate Seokguram Grotto(석굴암) longer, rather than temple itself. The Shilla artisans carved Buddha sculpture by granite, not by marble. Considering the construction time, carving a granite is not an easy task. Imagine those masons putting their all skills to carve Buddha. It is just marvelous.
