1951년에 개교하였습니다.
현재는 남녀공학으로 약 460명의 학생이 생활하고 있습니다.
원래는 주문진중학교와 주문진여자중학교가 별도로 있었으나 1996년에 통합되었습니다.
인근에는 주문진고등학교와 사임당교육원, 강원도립대학 등이 위치하고 있습니다.
주문진중학교의 가장 큰 장점은 아름다운 캠퍼스입니다.
넓은 공간에 다양한 나무와 아름다운 꽃이 가득하며, 특히 사임당교육원 쪽으로 배치된 솔밭은 휴식 장소로 부족함이 없습니다.
솔밭에는 각종 운동 기구가 설치되어 있어 주민들이 자유롭게 이용하고 있습니다.
또한 깨끗하게 조성된 운동장도 훌륭합니다.
현재 강원행복+학교로 지정되어 있으며 축구부, 테니스부, 복싱부 등을 운영하고 있습니다.

Currently, it is designated as Kangwon Happiness+School, and operates soccer, tennis, and boxing divisions.
