1982년 12월 1일 경상북도기념물 제42호로 지정되었다. 조선시대 중기의 대학자 퇴계(退溪) 이황(李滉:1501∼1570)의 종택이다. 원래의 가옥은 없어졌으며, 지금의 가옥은 퇴계의 13대 후손인 하정공(霞汀公) 이충호가 1926~1929년에 새로 지은 것이다.
종택의 크기는 총 34칸으로 ㅁ자형이며, 전체 면적은 2,119㎡이다. 종택 오른쪽에는 정면 5칸, 측면 3칸의 팔작지붕을 한 추월한수정(秋月寒水亭)이라는 정자가 있다.

On Dec. 1, 1982, it was designated as the Gyeongsangbuk-do Monument No. 42. It is the home of the Toegye scholar of the Joseon Dynasty in the middle of the Joseon Dynasty (李 滉: 1501 ~ 1570). The original house was lost, and the present house was built by Lee Chung-ho, the 13th descendant of Toegye, from 1926 to 1929.
The size of the village is 34 in total, and the total area is 2,119㎡. On the right side of the house, there is a pavilion called "Akiuki" (a water cave) with a five-faced front and three side-by-side roofs.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 퇴계선생 수제자이신 학봉선생의 해사록 학술발표회 교수님들과 함께 퇴계종택을 방문하였습니다.
80이 넘으신 종손(이근필 옹, 87)께서 반갑게 맞이하여 주셨고 직접 쓰신 ‘義在正我(의재정아, 의리는 나를 바르게 하는 데 있다)’라고 쓴 글씨를 모든 분께 한장씩 주셨습니다.
폐렴에 걸려 현재 화복 중이라고 하시면서 마스크를 쓰고 있어야 함을 미안해 하셨습니만 와병 중에도 직접 저희들을 맞이해 주셔서 많이 놀랐습니다.
현재 귀가 많이 어두우신 관계로 학봉종택의 종손이신 김종길 선비문화수련원장님께서 학봉종택에 대해 설명을 해 주셨습니다.
그리고 집을 나설때에는 한사람 한사람 손을 잡아 주시며 배웅 해 주셨습니다.
500년을 넘는 세월을 이어온 종택과 종손의 위대함과 선비의 정신을 느낄 수 있었다.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 퇴계종택은 20세기 초에 다시 지은 집이기는 하지만 살림채인 안채와 사랑채, 사당채로 구성된 전형적인 경북지방 종가의 모습을 지니고 있다. 정려가 있는 솟을대문을 지나면 안채로 들어갈 수가 있고 동쪽 측면에 중문이 나 있다. 안채 마당에서 무심코 고개를 오른쪽으로 돌려보면, 플라스틱 드럼통을 거꾸로 엎어 만든 개집 위로 담장에 조그맣게 뚫린 구멍이 보인다. 딱 눈높이의 도둑구멍이다. 구멍으로 내다보면 사랑에 출입하는 사람들이 누구누구인지 알 수 있다. 문을 열기 전에 사랑채에 오는 손님이 누구인지 파악하게 하려는 배려인 듯하다.
사랑채 또한 따로 솟을대문을 두어 출입할 수 있게 했는데, 백하 윤순이 쓴 ‘退溪先生舊宅’(퇴계 선생 구택) 편액이 걸려 있다. 요즈음에는 사랑채 문을 열지 않는데, 대신 안채 마당을 통해서 들어갈 수 있다. 사랑채는 당호가 ‘추월한수정’(秋月寒水亭)으로 경상북도 기념물 제42호이다. 한수정은 한수암 옛터에 사림들이 세운 건물이었는데, 뒤에 소실되고 나서 문중에서 다시 지었다.

Toegye Jongtaek is a house that was rebuilt in the early 20th century, but it has a typical Gyeongbuk closing house consisting of house, anchae, sasangchae, and shrine. Passing through the towering gate of Jeongeul, you can enter the main building and there is a Jungmun on the east side. If you inadvertently turn your head to the right in the inner courtyard, you will see a small hole in the fence over the kennel, which is made upside down from a plastic drum. It is just a thief hole at eye level. Looking through the hole reveals who the people are in and out of love. It seems to be a consideration to try to figure out who is coming to Sarangchae before opening the door.
Sarangchae also opened a separate gate to allow access, but the 편 편 生生 (territorial teacher's house) written by Baek Hae-sun is hanging. These days, we don't open the love house door, but you can enter through the house courtyard instead. Sarangchae is the 42nd monument of Gyeongsangbuk-do, where Dangho is “overtaking fertilization” (秋月寒 水亭). Hansujeong was a building built by Sarim on the site of Hansuam, which was later destroyed and rebuilt from the gate.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 퇴계 이황의 16대 종손 이근필옹의 예와 경의 실천 강의를 들었습니다. 지금은 90세의 연세이고 건강도 좋지 않아 거의 듣지를 못 하시지만, 남녀노소. 신분 차이를 가리지 않고, 찾아온 손님을 무릎꿇고 예로 대하시는 이옹의 강의는 21세기 정신문화의 큰 울림이었습니다. 직접 써주신 글 "造福"을 소중히 받아들고 돌아왔습니다.
I listened to a lecture on the practice of courtesy and respect from Lee Geunpilong, the 16th descendant of Toegye Yi Hwang. Now he is 90 years old and he is not in good health, so he can hardly hear, but people of all ages and genders. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 퇴계 이황선생의 종가집. 도산서원에서 차로 5분정도 거리의 고즈넉한 장소에 위치해 있다. 선생의 장손인 이안도가 처음 짓고 대대로 종손들이 생활해 왔다고 한다. 원 주택은 1907년에 화재로 전소되었고, 현재의 건물들은 1926년에 종가 후손들이 새로 지었다고 한다. 살림채, 정자, 사당 등으로 나뉘어져 있고, 현재는 일부분만 일반인들이 직접 구경할수 있다. 퇴계선생께서 그의 위대한 철학과 사상을 생각하고 고민하면서 집과 도산서원을 오간 상황을 그려보게 되었다.
