★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 광주시 기념물로 지정된 400년된 호랑가시나무는 이 지도 위치보다 아래쪽인 호랑가시나무 아트폴리곤(옛 선교사 차고지) 앞에 있다. 서해안 격포지역이 북방한계선으로 자라는 이 나무는 잎끝이 뽀족해 호랑이가 등을 긁었다는, 호랑이 발톱 닮았다는 의미로 이름지어졌다는 설. 서양은 크리스마스트리, 예수 가시면류관, 크리스마스카드 실버벨 장식 등에 사용한 ‘거룩’한 나무. 서양 기독교인이 신성시하는 나무로 이 일대 선교사촌이 생기면서 이들을 관리를 받아 400년 수령이 귀한 나무라고.
The 400-year-old holly tree, designated as a Gwangju city monument, is located in front of the holly tree art polygon (old missionary garage) below this map location. It is said that this tree, where the western coast of Gyeokpo area grows as a northern limit line, was named to mean that the tiger had scratched its back because of its sharp tip, and it resembled a tiger's claw. In the West, it is a “holy” tree used for Christmas trees, Jesus crown of thorns, and Christmas card silver bell decorations. It is a tree cherished by Western Christians, and this missionary council was established, and it was taken care of by them.
