굳이 찾아서 갈 필요는 없는 것 같다
가는 길에 죽은 뱀 봐서 식겁잔치했다
길도 젖어있고 추운데 긴장해서 지나갔다
근데 여기서부터 수안보 가는길
산세가 너무 높아서 신기루를 보는 기분이었는데
문경새재에 대해 다시 한 번 생각해보는
계기가 됐었다

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 중요한 문화유적 중 하나. 송계계곡도 관리가 잘되고 있지만 이 산성 역시 나름 관리가 잘되고 있는 곳. 산성이 잘려 길이 나있는 것이 조금 아쉬움.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 삼국시대부터 내려오는 석축방식의 산성을 이렇게 도로변에서 쉽게 만날수 있다는 것이 놀랍다!! 고려시대에 몽고군이 여기에서 물러나고, 임진왜란도 겪어내고, 커다란 성문은 명성황후가 흥선대원군에게 쫒겨날 경우를 대비해서 만들었다니, 애초에 신라의 마지막 공주 덕주공주가 이곳에 피신한 이유가 있었네..

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ |덕주산성 (시도 기념물 35회) 『신증동국여지승람』, 『고려사』 등 문헌의 기록에 의하면 덕주산성은 백제의 옛성(B.C18~A.D660)으로 전해 오는 곳으로 신라 말 덕주공주의 피난처이자 덕주사를 창건한 곳이며 경순왕이 고려 태조에게 나라를 바치러 갈 때 머물었던 곳이다. 고려 고종 43년(1256년) 몽고병의 침입으로 충주 사람들이 이곳에서 난을 피하다가 월악산신(山神)의 도움으로 몽고군이 공격을 포기하고 물러간 산성으로 둘레가 32,670자로 이를 포백척(R: 치수를 재기 위해 만든 자, 단위)으로 환산하면 약 15km가 넘으며 4개의 곽을 이루고 있는 특이한 산성으로 충청지역 최대규모의 차단성 역할을 하는 산성이다.
