Best Italian restaurant in korea

M	Mark Richley on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent restaurant for those who wish to enjoy contemporary European food in a relaxed, Korean setting. Be sure to order first courses, THEN mains. They don't time the dishes. Otherwise, a fantastic place to eat, especially at dusk as the lighting is very well done.

I did have the bacon taken out but the remaining ingredients, crust, tomato sauce, mozzarella, ricotta cheese, even herbs, were almost completely devoid of taste. The thin crust is not pizza dough but a kind of pita bread, as is very common in Korea. The pasta amattriciana was extremely hot. Also, broccoli and mushrooms seem inappropriate ingredients for that dish. The salmon salad was good but the dressing is sweet, again a common feature in Korea. The setting is nice, in a redesigned traditional Korean house. In fact, the name of the restaurant in Korean translates to « the house that Smith likes ». I now understand why it’s not « the food that Smith likes ».

They're trying with their food and presentation, but ingredients are definitely not the freshest or the best for the price that they charge. The Green salad is fine, the salmon in the Salmon Gravelax salad was fishy (a huge red flag), the honey provided with the pizza with mascarpone/walnuts was either sugar syrup mixed in with honey or the lowest grade of honey possible. I don't know who Smith is but he has poor taste when it comes to food quality.

The restaurant is located in an alley across Kyeongbokgung Palace, and is an old-syle traditional house. It's nice environment attracts a lot of people so better make an appointment beforhand, to be safe a couple of weeks before your visit.

We reserved it before hand, and I thought they would seat people more separately because of the Corona and all but put us in between two parties. Overall my experience there was not so bad.

The pasta was just okay. The pizza baked in a wood fired oven was a bit better – the flavor was a bit lacking, but the toppings were generous. The wait staff were not too friendly, but professional and unassuming. Nonetheless, the best part of this restaurant was the dining atmosphere. The restaurant was housed in an old building with a traditional exterior. The restaurant interior and furniture were of a chic combination of both the traditional and modern touches, and were super cozy as well. Furthermore, the atmosphere on a weekday evening was very calm and quiet.
