임실 상월리 신흥사 유물명:신흥사 대웅전 한자명:新興寺大雄殿 소재지:관촌면 상월리 360 유적분류:건축물/건축물군 종교건축 불교건축(사찰) 시대:삼국 유적개요/참고문헌 745번 지방도로 방현교차로에서 좌화전하여 상월방면 끝자락, 사자산 남쪽 기슭에 있다. 조계종 24교구 소속의 사찰로 신흥사는 眞鑑禪師가 창건한 것으로 추정되며 창건당시 대웅전을 비롯 일주문, 천왕문, 나한전, 명부전, 산신각, 요사 등이 400여 평의 대지 위에 300여명의 승려가 수도할 수 있도록 만든 대찰이었다고 하나 현재는 대웅전과 산신각, 요사만이 남아있다. 대웅전은 백제성왕 7년(529)에 창건되었다는 기록과 신라 진감국사가 창건하였다는 기록이 있다. 그 뒤 여러 차례 중수하였으며 1983년 해체보수와 단청을 하였다. 여러 번의 보수공사에도 불구하고 처음 지었을 때의 모습을 지니고 있어 삼국시대 사찰건축양식을 이해하는 데 많은 도움이 된다. 신흥사는 맞배지붕아래 다포식 공포와 정면 3칸 측면 3칸으로 지어졌다. 대웅전 내에는 나무로 조각한 나한 10분과 출입문 양쪽의 문지기, 탱화 3점이 있으며 천정의 좌우측에는 조각한 비천도(좌 90cm, 우 100cm)가 각 1개씩 있다.
