사천왕문은 불법을 수호하는 외호신인 사천왕을 모신 전각이다. 사천왕은 지국천왕(持國天王;동쪽) 증장천왕(增長天王;남쪽) 광목천왕(廣目天王;서쪽) 다문천왕(多聞天王;북쪽)을 말한다. 수미단상(須彌壇上)에서는 오른쪽에서 왼쪽으로 차례차례 동서남북에 배치하였으며 가진 물건으로 구별하였다.

The Sacheonwangmun is a shrine dedicated to the Four Heavenly Kings, who are the guardian deities of law. The Four Heavenly Kings are: Jiguk Cheonwang (East), Jeungjang Cheonwang (South), Gwangmok Cheonwang (West), and Damon Cheonwang (North). In the Sumidangsang (須彌壇上), they were arranged sequentially from right to left, east, west, north, and south, and distinguished by their possessions.
