★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Let me preface by saying I’m a bit bias as I know the folks who run this fine establishment. (Though I will try to be objective as possible.)
Ambiance: Dubbed as a speakeasy solely from the fact that it’s hidden and less of a homage to the typical prohibition style bars you’ve seen pop up around Seoul, this private dining room is a treasure hunt to find and definitely not visible from the street. Just find the shelf full of shoes and you’re there. As for the interior...just imagine walking into a bar from Blade Runner and the first thing you hear is Miles Davis. Pretty cool. They have two private rooms in case you have a party over three.
Now for the cuisine: the Michelin-rated chef’s phenomenal food is a mix of surprise and delight. The menu changes almost on the whim with some classics like lamb soondae (Korean style sausage) and a Gorgonzola cheesecake paired with truffle honey and prosciutto. The natural wine is also something to note as the entire list is sourced by an in-house sommelier. Both sommelier and chef have worked at the famed Eleven Madison Park in NYC so you know you’ll get the best.
For foreigners and visitors from abroad, all the staff speak perfect English (and of course Korean) so you won’t have to worry about a language barrier!
