The 13th-story stone pagoda, a national treasure, is a rare stone pagoda that even people of Gyeongju do not know.

This tower has a very rare number of floors, which is 13 stories compared to a tower in the Unified Shilla Era. The bottom part of the tower is also regarded as a valuable resource for the study of stone pagodas, unlike the general style of the Silla period pagoda.

It is a beautiful tower
It must be protected so that it doesn't change.
The scenery that blends with Ginkgo trees is excellent.

National Treasure No. 40. This unique 13-story stone pagoda has a structure that is considerably smaller from the second floor than the first floor.
Compared to the name of the national treasure, the surroundings and security seem a little lax. The best time to visit is when the banks are colored in autumn.

I don't know when I heard the Thirteen-story Pagoda at Jeonghyesaji Temple or when I learned it at the time of school history, but I remembered only by name.
I thought I knew a race, but I missed it because I didn't know it long ago.
It is said to be the only thirteen-storied pagoda in Korea and is designated as National Treasure # 40.
I think that the ginkgo trees around them are so large that they seem to obscure the true story of the tower.

The stone pagoda at the Jeonghyesa Temple Site in Gyeongju has a unique thirteen-story structure quite unlike that of any of the other surviving pagodas of the Unified Silla Period, and has remained unchanged since the 9th century. The pagoda’s thirteen-story body stands on a single-story earthen platform. Although the first story is huge, the pagoda tapers sharply from the second story upward. The main body of the first story has a square stone pillar at each of its four corners, with auxiliary pillars erected inside the four pillars to create an opening. The roofstones and their supports are all made of different stones, and their corners are raised to create a light impression. Only the base of pagoda finial remains of the upper extremity of the pagoda. As well as having thirteen stories, this pagoda is unique for the air of stability created by highlighting its first story and gradually reducing its size from the second story. The platform also departs from the common style. Thanks to these unique characteristics, the pagoda is a precious resource for studies of stone pagodas of the Unified Silla Period.

It is a pagoda erected at the site of Jeonghyesa Temple in Gyeongju, and it is a 13-story pagoda with a pedestal built with soil.
The first-story pagoda is huge, but from the second floor, both the body and the roof stone become smaller, so that the second floor or higher looks like a headdress added to the one-story pagoda. The first-floor body stone made on a large scale has square stone pillars at the four corners, and auxiliary pillars are attached to it to create a door. The provision of such a door is seen as an expression of the will to pursue an open space. The base of the roof stone was made of a separate stone rather than a sculpture, and the eaves, which drew a straight line, reached the four corners and lifted up cheerfully. At the top, only the noban, the base stone for the headdress, remains.
The pagoda, which is presumed to have been built around the 9th century, during the Unified Silla period, has a rare number of 13 stories, and the base is also evaluated as a valuable material for research on stone pagodas at the time, deviating from the usual style. It has a relatively old appearance, and the style of the first floor was greatly emphasized and then drastically reduced from the second floor, so a sense of stability is felt throughout the tower.

If you go up further from Doknakdang, a simple sign introduces the location along with Jaoksansa Temple.
It is almost a one-way street and it is difficult to park a vehicle because the site is very narrow, so if you want other tourists, it is better to park at Doknakdang and walk up.
There are Chinese characters written in ink on the topscenes, but I can't find the information anywhere, so I don't know when they were written...
The surrounding mountains are beautiful and secluded and quiet, so it is worth a visit if you visit Oksanseowon.
For reference, when entering the area inside the pillars built at the four corners, a warning message is broadcast.
