It opened in 1974 in Dongsan-cho and Sansu-cho, Gwangju, accepting some students. Jangwon Elementary School is the geographically known as Jangwon, located above Bamsilgol at the entrance of Mudeungsan Mountain, the most famous mountain in the area, and overlooking the city of Gwangju. The Gyogado, which led to "Mt. Mudeung Mountain, a village with clear spirits, and the legendary young bee of Jangwonbong Peak..." shows pride in Mudeungsan Mountain and Jangwonbong Peak just above it.
