(2) 구약 지명. 가나안 땅 헤브론에서 약 2.5km 북쪽에 있는 땅 이름(창세 23, 19; 35, 27).

마므레의 이름을 딴 지역으로 추정된다. 헤브론 인근 지역으로(창 13:18) 상수리나무 숲이 유명한데, 아브라함은 이곳에 천막을 치고 거주했다(창 14:13).
훗날 아브라함이 사라의 장지(葬地)로 구입하여 족장들의 묘소가 된 막벨라 동굴은 마므레 앞(동쪽)에 위치하였다(창 23:17; 25:9; 49:30; 50:13).
그후 이곳은 이삭을 비롯한 후손들의 중심 거처가 되었다.
오늘날 헤브론 북쪽 2㎞ 지점의 ‘라멧 엘 칼릴’(Ramet el-Khalil)로 보는 견해가 지배적이다.
