신선원전이 위치한 곳은 동궐내에서도 가장 북쪽의 외진 곳으로 임진왜란에 파병을 해준 명나라에 대한 고마움을 표시하고 청나라를 오랑캐라하여 인정하지 않으려는 의지를 나타낸 대보단이 있던 자리로 1921년 일제에 의해 지어졌다. 신선원전이 건립되며 창덕궁내 있던 선원전의 12명의 임금의 어진이 이쪽으로 옮겨지며 원래의 선원전은 그 기능을 잃고 구선원전이라 불리게 된다. 이 곳은 일반에 개방을 하지 않는 곳으로 이곳을 보려하는 분들은 신선원전 서북쪽에 위치한 중앙고의 운동장에서 내려다 보면서 아쉬움을 달려야 할 것이다. 예전에 문화재청에 일반관람 요청을 민원 넣어 보았으나 관리통제의 어려움으로 일반관람을 할 수 없다는 답변만 들었다.

After the construction of the Sinseonwonjeon Hall, the 12 kings of Seonwonjeon in Changdeokgung were moved here, and the original Seonwonjeon lost its function and was called Guseonwonjeon. This place is not open to the public, and those who want to see this place will have to run to the regret while looking down from the playground of Joongang High School located in the northwestern part of the Sinseon nuclear power plant. In the past, I tried to submit a request for general visit to the Cultural Heritage Administration, but only answered that the general visit was not possible due to difficulties in management and control.
