The brand identity of Gourmet 494 is related with European heritage. To create glamorous atmosphere in modern way, texture and pattern were focused on, not the decorative forms.
Fluted wall
A motive came from fluting in classical order. By repeating custom made octagonal bricks, walls embrace the rich shadows, giving tension to the space with their sharp edges.
Water mirror
Squares and street were covered by wave-patterned stainless mirror panels which symbolized the sky. They make impressions by reflecting the design and activities on the floor.
Jack arch remake
The ceiling in the market was motivated by jack arch ceiling in the 19th century. Instead of using curve surfaces, linear elements form a rippled layer for lightings, leaving the flat ceiling for other mechanical functions.
Herringbone louver ceiling
The canopies on ground level mediate exterior and interior. They need to unify tenant shops, and encourage people down to the main programs. Dark painted thin aluminum louver is selected, because they invite the shade on the sides with sharp highlight on their edges. In herringbone pattern, they imply classical approach, yet can be read modern as well.
