The Gyeongin Line was the first railway in Korea to run a total length of 27 km from Guro Station in Seoul to Incheon Station. Incheon Station, the terminus of the Gyeongin Line, started operations as a railway station on the Gyeongin Line on September 18, 1899. Until the early 1980s, it enjoyed its heyday as a logistics center where a lot of cargo and passengers came and went. However, as the industrial center changed to Seoul, it entered a path of decline, and the station and surrounding areas were transformed into underdeveloped areas. Dongincheon Station was once called Sangincheon Station, and the elderly who lived in the area for a long time called it Haincheon Station to distinguish the station. It is also the oldest station on the subway in the metropolitan area, and as it has never been extended, it remains the last station to this day. It also serves as a starting point for people to travel to other destinations. From here, you can go to Wolmido Island, Inner Harbor, Chinatown, and Freedom Park. Incheon Station, a symbol of Korea's modernization, is now transformed into a large-scale complex for the first time in 117 years. It will be transformed into a complex station for various purposes such as tourism, business, and sales, and a new plaza will be built at the rear of the complex station. The plaza will be transformed into a historical and cultural themed space linking Chinatown and Wolmido Island. Incheon Station, which once served as a hope to open a new era, is now the starting point for a new transformation and moving towards tomorrow. TIP In the alley next to Chinatown 1Paeru, there is Bandangi Street in Chinatown. Also, you can reach Bukseongpo-gu in 5 minutes by car along the road to the right of Incheon Station. You can feel the atmosphere of the port, such as trimmed and spread nets and tied ships. In Bukseong-dong, Jung-gu, there is a sign for Red Beach, which was erected to remind us of the historical significance of the Incheon Landing.
