PJ GURNAMAL graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in the USA with a double major in Cultural Anthropology and Dramatic Arts. Pamela began her career in teaching by obtaining a Certificate to Teach Language to Adults (CELTA) from the University of Cambridge in 2006. She pursued the profession further when, in 2010, she completed a teacher preparation program in San Francisco and received her Teaching Credential from the State of California. She sat for the LET exam in 2018 and thus, is also a Licensed Professional Teacher in the Philippines.

She has over seven years of experience teaching diverse populations in multiple settings, such as: language schools, K-12 international schools, private universities, and even inside a men’s prison!

Something that she’s begun to daydream about is opening her own learning center in the metro for kids who need to learn things in a nontraditional way. She is passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people who are hungry to learn, and so she consistently aims to make each student fall in love with English – both the language and literature.

When not working, she spends a lot of time obsessing over her dog, Scotty, her selection of coffee pods, and where to travel next.

SARAH TEW is an English teacher and avid language learner currently living in Bibiana, Italy. Before moving to Italy she was a language assistant in public high schools in France and Spain for three years and a volunteer tutor for immigrant adults in Florida and Virginia

In 2015 Sarah completed a BA in Classics and Art History from New College of Florida (where she met Kristine!). She obtained her CELTA in 2017 at York St. John University. In 2020 she began a masters in Digital Humanities and Digital Knowledge and the University of Bologna.

Her favorite part of teaching English is connecting with learners and sharing their journeys towards their personal and professional goals. She especially enjoys working with immigrant women and bilingual children.

KRISTINE TOTANES is an experienced ESL instructor who has a zest for both teaching and learning. A U.S.-born Filipino American who teaches ESL to expatriates and short-term students living in the Philippines, she has learned how to reconcile seemingly opposing cultures and foster her own sense of identity through her own cultural and national heritage. She has also gained a wider appreciation of other people’s beliefs and cultural values–and even become a better teacher as a result.

As the founder of The English Blog, Kristine longs to connect with teachers from all cultural backgrounds and walks of life. Besides sharing her own experiences and tips on ESL teaching, she hopes to gain insights and advice from fellow English teachers around the world. A lifelong learner, Kristine will never stop expanding her circle and improving her craft as a teacher, so please don’t hesitate to send her a message through The English Blog and say hello!
