Nice and perfect historical place

A must-see historic site that preserves and commemorates the lives of progressive and feminist literaries in the reknowned Huh family. Unfortunately, there's limited english signage but the staff are kind and will answer any questions. Don't skip on the dollar tea provided at cost by volunteers who are raising awareness of Korean tea culture.

The memorial hall was opened to commemorate a sister, Nanseolheon Heo Chohee who was recognized a distinguished genius in poet, writing, and painting. Her brother, Gyosan Heo Gyun who was a scholar, writer, and politician as well as the author of “Hong Gildong jeon” (the Biography of Hong Gildong in English), a Korea’s first novel written in Korean. The place also introduces the literary minds of the “Five Great Writers of the Heo Clan” who demonstrated their poetic genius and literary talents. Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Hall is a one-story wooden building roofed with Giwa (Korean style roof tiles). Inside, the rectangle-shaped hallway leads to the information desk and, further, to the main exhibition room and a small exhibition room. On display in the memorial hall are videos on the sister and brother’s literary works as well as Hagok Jocheongi (Hagok’s travel essay in English), Gwanghanjeonbaekokgusangryangmun (a writing to celebrate putting up a ridge pole for Gwanghan Hall Baekok Pavillion), Nanseolheonjib (Nanseolheon’s essay book), and Gukjosisan (Chinese poet book compiled by Heo Gyun). In addition, surrounding the memorial hall are the historic site of Heo Gyun and Heo Chohee (Chodang House) and Chohee Traditional Tea Experience Hall; and the memorial park is built around these three structures.
