S	Steve Byeol on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 1919년 3월 1일 서울 탑골공원에서 3.1만세운동이 일어난 4일 뒤인 3월 5일, 한강 이남에서 최초로 항일독립만세운동이 일어난 곳이 바로 군산이다. 이는 유관순 열사의 4월 1일 아우내장터 만세운동보다도 한 달 가까이 빠른 것이다. 몰려드는 쌀과 부를 쫓아 진입한 일본인이 많았던 군산에서는 그만큼 일제의 수탈이 심했고, 이에 군산 사람들이 저항의 만세운동을 벌였던 것이다. 군산항쟁관은 100여년 된 근대 주택을 리모델링하여 군산 항일의 역사를 담아 꾸며 놓았는데, 관리인 없이 무인으로 운영되고 있다. 아쉬운 점은 전시 공간이 기대만큼 넓지 않고, 전시된 자료 역시 많이 부족하다는 것이다. 예를 들어 군산 옥구 출신으로 우리나라 최초의 여성의병 지도자로 알려진 유희순 의사에 대한 내용을 더욱 보강하는 등 다른 곳에서는 찾아볼 수 없는 군산 지역만의 항일 역사를 관람객들이 꼼꼼하게 알 수 있는 자료가 더 갖추어지기를 기대한다.
