중학교 2학년 때 부터 형들을 따라 오르기 시작해서 만 65세가 지난 지금 까지 엄청 오르고 또 오른 산이다.
주로 낮에는 붐비는 등산객들로 해떨어 지기 시작하면 오르기 시작해서 신선대(725m)에서 밤을 지새우는
야간 산행을 즐겨 다녔는데 어느 때 부터인지 일몰 후의 산행을 금지하고 단속하기 시작하면서 부터 그 좋은 밤 산행을 못하고 있다.
평생 한 번 올라 본 자운봉(740m)을 눈 앞에 바라 보며
별 빛과 달 빛 아래 의정부와 서울 야경을 내려다 보는
재미는 보지 못한 사람은 맛 보지 못할 빼어난 퐁광이다

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 서울 최북단에 있지만 사실 의정부 시민들에겐 없어선 안 될 역이다. 솔직히 구조가 불편한 건 사실이다. 특히 1호선을 타려면 위로 올라간 다음에 다시 아래로 내려가야 하는데 불편하지 않을 수 없다... 아무래도 점포를 세워 자릿세로 수익을 얻으려 한 것 같다.
