주변에 COEX몰, 아셈타워, 여러 기업 시설 등 나름대로 유동 인구 밀집도가 높은 편이며, 코엑스몰 지하 통로로 삼성역과 연결되어 있어 이용객 분산 효과도 있다.
삼성역과 마찬가지로 국가적으로 중요한 행사가 열릴 경우 무정차 통과를 할 것으로 예상된다.
2024년 GTX A선이 개통할 때 삼성역과 통합할 예정이다. 즉 서울 지하철 2호선, 서울 지하철 9호선, GTX A선, GTX C선 4개 노선을 한꺼번에 환승할 수 있게 된다. 이렇게 되면 다음 역인 종합운동장역과 2-9호선 환승이 중복된다.
그리고 하행 방향인 중앙보훈병원역 방향으로는 급행과 일반 열차 모두 바로 다음 역인 종합운동장역에 정차한다. 9호선 급행 정차역을 보면 사이에 1~3개의 역을 통과하게 되는데 이 구간만큼은 유일하게 급행 통과역이 없다.

If you look at the express stops on Line 9, you will pass 1 to 3 stations in between, but there is no express transit station only in this section.
